Before creating his own label, Tom Ford worked for Gucci as the company’s womenswear designer and was appointed creative director in 1994. He went onto to work for Yves Saint Laurent creative director and YSL Beaute in 2000, before launching a line of menswear, beauty, eyewear and accessories named after himself in 2006. Ford has described “the Tom Ford customer” as international, cultured, well travelled, and possessing disposable income. For women, he added “strong women, … intelligent women who know their own style”.
